When in Rome, live the Roman way.

My overall thoughts on Rome - absolutely breathtaking, from the rich history to the delicious food

I want to share with you my trip and reflect on the things that we did. It was an absolute blast and if given the opportunity, I would go back in a heartbeat. Here is just a tasting  of the things we did, ate, and saw!

The Colosseum:
Absolutely stunning! The symmetry within the arena is unlike any other and the details are incredible. It is a lot larger than I pictured it to be and thinking about it being packed with people is crazy!

Palentine Hill:
This is where Rome was first founded. Unfortunately we did not go to the hill, but we saw it from the Colosseum and from outside. This city is so rich with history and every time you turn a corner you find something new. One of the locals was telling us that they only have 2 subway lines and they are only now working on the third because whenever they start digging, they find something new.

The Trevi Fountain!
Of course Logan and I had to stop and make a wish for the future. This is definitely a fountain to see and the detail within each sculpture is incredible. Photos do not do it justice.

We went to an incredible restaurant the first night: Osteria delle Cammari
This was suggested to us by the owner of our Airbnb and it totally blew us away. From the comforting atmosphere to the delicious food and wine, what more could a person want! They are opening one in Milan and lucky for Logan and I, we are going there in March. Maybe we will just have to dine with them again!
I ordered the braised oxtail and it was outstanding.
This is their gnocchetti dish with a meat ragu. The flavors were great and I was surprised
to not see any tomato considering it was a meat ragu, but it was so flavorful!

 Next up: The Vatican
Unfortunately, some of it was closed because once a year they clean it, but we still were about to see St. Peter's Basilica and that was gorgeous.

 The Pantheon
This church has some of the greatest architecture inside! Logan was in his history element throughout this trip and loved this place. Luckily the day we went, it was free and open to the public.

About 1 mile up from the ground!
This was the craziest thing that I have done. We went on a glass elevator up to the top about 50 seconds, after we were already about 15 sets of stairs up. The view was worth the anxiety and we got to see all of Rome from above!

Another suggestion from our Airbnb owners!
This restaurant was Trattoria Moderna and it was also incredible. I feel like that is a trend in this blog, but really, everything was great. This dish was their ceviche di persico or perch, served with arugula, carrots, radish, mint, and onion. The flavors created a married mix in your mouth and the fish was so fresh and delicious.

La Fiorentina Restaurant
This was our last dinner and it was great. This dish is cacio e pepe, a traditional dish from Rome. They like their pasta very al dente, but it was still good!

All in all, Rome was an amazing trip. We had such a fun time and saw everything that we wanted to. My suggestion to anyone who goes there: Buy the Roma Pass online for 28 euros!

With love,
Baylee
